Parliamentary Roundtable #1 Next Normal for Jobs (Labour Day Special) 1 May (Friday), 10am Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/…/register/WN_svDPZV5YSgeKdk1mZG-z8g Convenor: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - Member of Parliament for Port Dickson Moderator: Fahmi Fadzil, Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai Background: As the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic intensifies, a majority of our livelihoods are increasingly at stake. Globally, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has estimated that 25 million people will lose their jobs worldwide. Whereas in Malaysia, the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) has projected the loss of 1.46 million jobs (revised down from 2.4 million) as some 955,000 jobs could be protected by the government's PRIHATIN Economic Stimulus. In light of this, measures must be taken to prevent a potential unemployment crisis which could wreck economic consequences and social unrest. How effective will the PRIHATIN package be in reality to protect jobs and preserve industries which have been hit by restrictions? What kind of policy response can preserve productivity, protect jobs, and intervene in worst-hit sectors? Join us as we speak to a host of experts in this field as they brief policymakers across the political divide on the best approach to steer Malaysia through the unchartered territory of post-Covid economy.
